Comments: First, Happy Easter! I had a nice time with family, and Isaac did pretty well during the 2 hour, 15 minute Easter Vigil mass. He only needed to be fed once, which also gave me a little break from the long mass. I woke Thursday to snow plows going by my house. This is one long winter. The weather wasn’t good on Wednesday so I didn’t do a workout during my run. The roads were pretty slippery.
I was excited for the race on Saturday. The course was flat, and though it was incredibly windy, the sun was out and the weather was a good temperature. I fed Isaac, and headed off on my warm up. I felt decent and really felt I would run low 19’s for the race. We had seen someone measuring the first mile and there were mile markers out, so I thought for sure the course was going to be accurate. Not quite. The first mile was into the wind, but I was working hard and my split was 5:55 which I believed. I was pleased and remained strong and tried to catch a few of the guys in front of me. When I saw that my second “mile” was 5:13, I was disappointed the course was not marked correctly. I still thought it would be a 5k and the mile markers were just off, but when I crossed the finish line in 17:13, I knew it was definitely not. The results say it was a 3 mile race, but I still don’t believe it was that long. So that’s disappointing. I also missed my cousin’s bridal shower, because the awards took longer to start than I anticipated. The upside is that the people directing the race and working at it were very kind, and besides the inaccurate course, the race was well managed. Also, I got to cool down running on the beach, and Ian and I took Isaac to the beach for his first time while we were waiting for the awards to begin. I think he was pretty amazed by it, which was pretty special to see.
