Before I forget, I wanted to mention that Girls on the Run didn’t end up
happening in Peterborough this season. :( There weren’t
enough coaches and girls signed up. A lot ended up being last minute, so I
really think we can get it up running for the spring season. I’m disappointed, though
it is nice to come home after work and be able to take a nap.
My cold
was still affecting me on Sunday, therefore I only ran the two miles with Lucy, and took it easy for much of the week.
It’s tough to start off the week with only a two mile run, but what I have to
remind myself is it’s not about the miles.
I can’t worry about how many miles I run. When I wasn’t pregnant, I could run
through being sick to get in a long run to keep my mileage up. But now, I run with a different purpose, and that
is to stay healthy and make baby and me feel well.
Ian and I
ran the Marlborough Madness 5k on Saturday. This year, the race was tiny- only
34 runners. It’s a friendly race, which I hope can bounce back next year. I
ended up getting first place with a time of 23:42 (and won $100 bucks!). My first mile was 8:32, and that included a short
steep downhill, then longer uphill. I was in second place for females at this
point, and didn’t even consider that I would catch the first place female. I
thought it would be nice to average 8/8:30 pace for the race. However, in the second
mile, I was getting closer to her. My second mile split was 7:21, and I was
feeling strong, and making sure to maintain steady, relaxed breathing. I thought to
myself that it would be nice not to finish too far behind her.In the
last mile, I continued to make progress and passed her, with a third mile split
of 7:11. I was pleased with the race, and also happy I wore a tank top and not
a t.shirt as it was warm in the sun. Ian and I celebrated with lunch and ice
cream at Kimball’s Farm. Then, after we got home and did some housecleaning, I parked
it on the couch and napped for an hour and a half!
